Doug originally hails from the Amish country of Pennsylvania, where he learned to ski on 600 vertical feet of packed powder.  He graduated from Penn State with a degree in geography, specializing in cartography and geographic information systems.  After working around the country for various federal agencies and conservation organizations, he moved to the Vail Valley a few winters ago, planning to work seasonally for the resort.  As often happens in Vail, winter turned into summer, and those plans evolved.  

Over the years and throughout his travels, Doug has collected an entire library of maps, with ski maps and city bird’s eye views being favorite categories.  When the opportunity arose to bring a new Discovery Map to the Vail Valley, it was a natural fit.
