Hi everyone! It’s time for another edition of The Local’s Corner.
Most Discovery Map franchise owners live and work in their map territories. Even the ones who do not, spend significant time in those territories (think vacation home, seasonal visits). As a result, they’re experts in all things local.
We asked Sue Hans from Discovery Map of Newport, RI about some of his/her favorite local spots. Read on for an informed local's perspective!
What are the best kept secrets, things to do off the beaten path in Newport?
If you have the chance, try bike riding to Sweet Berry Farm on Mitchell's Lane to pick fresh berries, apples, homemade pies and so many goodies!
Ok, very important questions: where is the best breakfast/brunch?
Definitely head to Annie's Bellevue Avenue.

We always head to Fort Adams for the Newport Folk & Jazz Festivals, Johnny's outside bar, The Landing, Fastnet & Smuggler's Waterfront Bar...the list could go on!

Is there any important history I should know about? Any historic sites can I see?
Newport was founded in 1639 it is home to many historical colonial buildings, The U.S. Naval War College, Salve Regina University and many parks & beaches.
It was also host to the first U.S. Open tournaments for both tennis and golf, and you can visit the Tennis Hall of Fame on Bellevue Ave!
What makes this place special?
We love the quaint cobbled streets with small shops, restaurants and boutiques and the seaside vibe that goes hand in hand with Newport being a sailing mecca. It really is a special place!
Any other Recommendations for your area?
Be sure to enjoy a bowl of the best clam chowder washed down with a Del's frozen lemonade!
