Think that Cozumel, Mexico, is all just resorts, beach and nothing else? Think again. Sure, while beaches and resorts are great (perfect, even), if you’re dying to get in some retail therapy during your Mexican vacay, you can do so at some of our favorite places to shop in Cozumel.
The largest city on the island of Cozumel, San Miguel is safe, easy to get around and very walkable.
The downtown, near the ferry dock, is also a great spot to shop. San Miguel is a duty-free area, meaning you can shop and take home favorite items for less than you might pay in the United States. Look for popular duty-free items such as perfumes, jewelry and spirits, but also keep an eye out for interesting souvenirs and similar finds, such as handmade jewelry and accessories, textile goods and pottery.
If you’re specifically looking for more of a typical shopping center vibe, then go to the outdoor mall that is Royal Village Shopping Center
Right on the waterfront, the center offers an array of different retail outlets, all surrounded by lush gardens. You’ll find unique, locally made souvenirs, but also clothing from favorite brands, accessories, tech and more.
Los Cinco s Soles is a favorite Cozumel shopping destination and your go-to spot to find authentic, locally made goods, from artwork to clothing, food items to toys.
Whoever you’re shopping for, you can likely find a gift here that’ll make them smile — and which will be entirely one of a kind, definitely not something they could simply pick up at the shopping mall back home.
If you’re always looking to take the local eats back home with you, so everyone can try your latest foodie finds, be sure to stop in to the The Mayan Caca o Company
If you’re always looking to take the local eats back home with you, so everyone can try your latest foodie finds, be sure to stop in to the Mayan Cacao Company’s gallery and shop for not only a full experience introducing you to the world of Mayan cacao, but also plenty of opportunities to purchase cocoa-based products that go beyond chocolate, to also incorporate home goods, beauty items and more.
If, though, you really want to shop among the locals and get away from the tourists and cruise ship crowds, then head to the local marketplace, Mercado Municipal.
The small and straightforward marketplace is filled with local vendors selling a wide variety of produce, ready-to-eat foods and more. Pick up a snack, or something to cook up at your home stay or in your resort suite, if you have a kitchenette. You can also find street food vendors serving up entire meals, so be sure to come hungry.
